What Information Do We Need to Quote Your Job?

In order to provide our customers with the most accurate quotation it is vital to give us as much information as possible, these are many different factors that can affect both the turnaround and cost of your jobs so having accurate information is essential.

Metal Finishing Information

1. Process: The first and most important step with any quotation is knowing which metal finishing processes you require. Most often this is included in any technical drawings you send across. Where you are uncertain which process you require then factors below such as the application, size and material of the component should enable us to give you some suggestions as to which process is required.

2. Spec Type: Alongside the process itself, does your process need to be carried out to a specification? If you are unfamiliar with specs then some of the more common would be DEF STAN, MIL, AMS, BS, ISO all with various numbers/letters following them. A specification acts essentially as an instruction list on how we should process that part.

3. Thickness:Thickness of coating/plating is measured in Microns and most specifications will fall into a range so for example 8-12µm. Depending on the process there is not necessarily a “standard” amount to add to any given component. Where you are unsure we will try and advise you as to the right amount of coating your application will need.

4. Additional Processes: In many cases the desired process may not be the final one. For example if you were Copper Plating an item that was for an aesthetic application, you would need to also apply a lacquer. In the case of Electroless Nickel you may wish to add a higher level of wear resistance so Heat Treatment may be required. In many cases telling us the end applications will enable us to point you in the right direction.

Component Information

1. Material: What is your component made out of? This will have a big impact on the processes we can carry out and the formulations of the tank itself. Adherence of your finishing treatment will vary depending on the grade of material used.

2. Drawings: Silchrome largely work from technical drawing our customers provide, where these may be unavailable then in order to provide an accurate quote we ask for photos, rough drawings and most importantly dimensions. In many cases customers will send the parts themselves in order for us to effectively provide a quotation.

3. Condition: If your part has been subject to wear/scratches/corrosion then this will affect the process Silchrome put into place. It’s not possible to “fill in” a scratch or crack you with plating/coating and so often parts will need to be polished or even ground. All components Silchrome process are first subject to inspection and may need to be requoted depending on their condition.

4. Batch Size: The size on the production run will also affect the price. We will always aim to process your components in as cost effective manner as possible, and a reduction in price may be possible for higher volumes.

This information is vital in allowing us to provide the most accurate quotation. Silchrome Plating are based in Leeds,West Yorkshire andprovide a wide array of metal finishing processes including electro-plating,painting and specialist coatings. We are fully ISO 9001 and 14001 accredited.
