What is Electroless Nickel with High Phosphorus?

Silchrome offer a semi-bright Electroless Nickel Plating containing between 10-12% Phosphorus content. Electroless Nickel produces a uniform coating that will increase the wear and corrosion protection of components.Being Lead and Cadium free, Electroless Nickel meets ELV, WEEE and Rohss regulations.

Why Choose High Phosphorus and not Medium Phosphorus?

Electroless Nickel using a High Phosphorus level has a higher corrosion resistance against chemicals that are acidic in nature such as Phosphoric Acid. High Phosphorus is the most ductile of the Electroless Nickel processes and is suitable for build up of thicker deposits. High Phosphorus Electroless Nickel is non-magnetic in nature whereas Medium Phosphorus Electroless Nickel is slightly magnetic. In terms of appearance, High Phosphorus is duller but is less prone to staining than Medium Phosphorus. Where corrosion is of more concern, you might select a Higher Phosphorus Content.

What Are the Advantages?

The main advantage of Electroless Nickel Plating is the uniformity of the coating. Components with threads, holes and complex geometry can be enhanced with a corrosion and wear barrier that will be even on all surfaces.

Electroless Nickel provides an excellent level of corrosion resistance and can provide protection against a wide range of sources including oxidation, seawater, petroleum as well as a number of different chemicals including Phosphorus Oxychloride, Benzoyl Chloride, Benzitrichloride, Phosphoric Acid and more. Electroless Nickel can be heat treated which further increases its hardness and wear resistance and this process can rival the outcome of Hard Chrome Plating for many applications.

Electroless Nickel is a very versatile coating used in a cross section of industries and has applications for automotive, petrochemical, petroleum and many other industries. Any component whose part life could be extended through added wear and corrosion resistance could potentially benefit.

Specifications Offered:

MIL-C-26074, AMS 2404, ASTM-B733, ISO 4227

What We Offer

Components up to 2000mm in length and 100kg in weight can be accommodated but for general production use the plating window is 1000mm  x  600mm x  600mm and we offer the service for brass, aluminium and steel components. Silchrome are fully ISO 9001 and 14001 certified and carry out all our processes at our production facility in Leeds, West Yorkshire. Silchrome have produced a comprehensive guide to ENP which you can download without sign up HERE.
